HOW TO SING THE BLUES

1. Most Blues begin, "Woke up this morning."
대부분의 블루스는 이렇게 시작한다. '아침에 일어나보니...'
2. "I got a good woman" is a bad way to begin the Blues, 'less you stick something nasty in the next line, like " I got a good woman, with the meanest face in town."
"착한 여자를 사귀었지"는 블루스를 시작하는데 적절치 않다.
뒤에 심술궃은 문장을 추가하지 않는다면 말이다.
"착한 여자를 사귀었지. 근데 그녀는 동네에서 제일 못생겼어"
3. The Blues is simple. After you get the first line right, repeat it. Then find something that rhymes ... sort of: "Got a good woman - with the meanest face in town. Got teeth like Margaret Thatcher - and she weigh 500 pound."
블루스는 단순하다. 첫소절만 제대로 시작했다면 운(韻)만 맞추어서 반복하면 된다.

4. The Blues are not about choice. You stuck in a ditch, you stuck in a ditch; ain't no way out.

5. Blues cars: Chevys and Cadillacs and broken-down trucks. Blues don't travel in Volvos, BMWs, or Sport Utility Vehicles. Most Blues transportation is a Greyhound bus or a southbound train. Jet aircraft an' state-sponsored motor pools ain't even in the running. Walkin' plays a major part in the blues lifestyle.

혹은 남행열차이다. 제트비행기나 관용자동차도 블루스맨의 교통수단이 아니다.
걷기가 블루스맨의 주요 교통수단이다.
6. Teenagers can't sing the Blues. They ain't fixin' to die yet. Adults sing the Blues. In Blues, "adulthood" means being old enough to get the electric chair if you shoot a man in Memphis.
십대는 블루스를 할 수 없다. 그들은 죽을 준비가 되지 않았다.

블루스는 뉴욕에 있을수 있다. 그러나 하와이나 캐나다에서는 있을 수 없다.

9. You can't have no Blues in an office or a shopping mall. The lighting is wrong. Go outside to the parking lot or sit by the dumpster.

밖으로 나가서 주차장으로 가거나 쓰레기장으로 가라.

11. No one will believe it's the Blues if you wear a suit, 'less you happen to be an old ethnic person, and you slept in it.

12. Do you have the right to sing the Blues?
Yes, if:
아래에 해당된다면 블루스를 할 자격이 있다.

b. you're blind
c. you shot a man in Memphis
d. you can't be satisfied
No, if:
아래에 해당된다면 자격이 없다.
a. you have all your teeth : 치아가 모두 건강하다.
b. you were once blind but now can see : 한때 맹인이었지만 지금은 아니다.
c. the man in Memphis lived.
d. you have a retirement plan or trust fund. : 노후계획이 있거나 트러스트펀드를 가지고 있다.
13. Blues is not a matter of color. It's a matter of bad luck. Tiger Woods cannot sing the blues. Gary Coleman could. Ugly white people also got a leg up on the blues.
흑인이 아니라도 블루스를 할 수 있다. 그것은 '불운'에 대한 것이다.

15. If it occurs in a cheap motel or a shotgun shack, it's a Blues death.
Stabbed in the back by a jealous lover is another Blues way to die.
So is the electric chair, substance abuse, and dying lonely on a broken down cot.
You can't have a Blues death if you die during a tennis match or getting liposuction.
싸구려 여관이나 통나무집에서 죽는다면 블루스적이다.
질투심 많은 애인에게 등을 찔려 죽는것도 블루스적이다.
전기의자에서 죽거나 약물남용 혹은 병원침대에서 홀로 죽는것도 역시 블루스 적이다.

혹은 Rainbow와 같은 이름을 가진 사람들은 멤피스에서 사람을 죽였다고 해도 절대로 블루스를 할 수 없다
(강타, 문희준, 같은 이름들이 생각나는군요. ^^).
19. Make your own Blues name (starter kit):
당신만의 블루스 이름을 만들어 보자.
a. name of physical infirmity (Blind, Cripple, Lame, etc.) : 신체적 질병/장애 명(맹인, 절름발이 등...)
b. first name (see above) plus name of fruit (Lemon, Lime, Kiwi,etc.) : 거기다가 과일이름을 더하라.
c. last name of President (Jefferson, Johnson, Fillmore, etc.) : 성은 역대 대통령의 이름으로 하라.
For example, Blind Lime Jefferson, or Cripple Kiwi Fillmore, etc.
예를 들어 Blind Lime Jefferson, or Cripple Kiwi Fillmore와 같이 될것이다.

20. I don't care how tragic your life: you own a computer, you cannot sing the blues. You best destroy it. Fire, a spilled bottle of Mad Dog, or get out a shotgun. I don't care.
